Cristiano Ronaldo's previous girlfriend was Merche Romero (a Spanish TV anchorwoman working in Portugal. She is a divorcee, 9-years older than Ronaldo); Ronaldo's girlfriend confirmed (see Portuguese magazine Lux of August 2006) the relationship in the Portuguese press, although Ronaldo has never confirmed or denied the relationship, as he chooses to keep his personal life private and separated from his professional life. More recently, the Portuguese media have reported that Merche is no longer Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend and that the relationship has ended. Neither Cristiano nor Merche commented on the reports; however, a friend of the presenter told Spanish reporters that the relationship is over and that Merche is devastated. On September 20, 2006 it was confirmed, by Merche, that she and Cristiano Ronaldo had indeed broken up and that she is no longer Ronaldo's girlfriend.
Merche Romero Gomes (born November 27, 1976) is a model, actress and TV host. She is of Spanish descent but she was born in Andorra. She has Spanish nationality although she currently lives and works in Portugal. She gained notoriety for being the alleged girlfriend of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, which made her the target of several Cristiano fans who started Anti-Merche sites.
Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend is the co-host of the daytime show Portugal no Coração (roughly translates into Portugal in our Heart). She also hosts a model search show, in which two Portuguese girls will receive modeling contracts. In addition, she is the celebrity spokesperson for a fashion brand in Portugal. Merche practices yoga.
